recovering old data from CF card after reprogramming a CR1000 with NL115

Paul Heinrich Dec 1, 2025 05:42 PM

I have a CR1000 with a NL115 and 2GB Campbell CF card.  I accidentally reprogrammed the logger before downloading data.   Is it possible to recover old data from the CF card after the datalogger has been reprogrammed?

If your CR1000 was running one of the later OS revisions, by default it would have left the files from the old program on the card. Pull the card and copy files to a PC to check the contents.

Erase the card before putting back in the data logger so the new program has space to save data.

Reprogramming a CR1000 can overwrite or change how the CF card is indexed, so older data may still be on the card but not visible to the logger anymore. Recovery depends on whether the files were fully overwritten. Connecting the CF card directly to a computer and using standard file recovery tools often gives the best chance of finding the old logs. If the card was reformatted during the update, recovery becomes much harder, but not impossible.
